Almost Homo Calpicus – The early history of the Gibraltar Skull. The Gibraltar Skull is Gibraltar’s most famous fossil. It is the first adult Neanderthal skull ever found and was presented to the Gibraltar Scientific Society in 1848. Almost nothing is known about its early history. Until now. Alex Menez’s book draws on previously unpublished archival and other sources to portray the early history of the Gibraltar Skull in a fresh light. This 500 page book, published as paperback and hardback editions, was commissioned by the Gibraltar Museum. With over 300 footnotes in each chapter the layout and typesetting was quite a challenge!
